Leah Tubbs is a dancer and choreographer. She trained at Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA) and the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa. She was a scholarship recipient of the American Ballet Theatre’s (ABT) Summer Dance Intensive. She has worked professionally as a dancer with various dance companies in Ohio, California, Texas and New York including Dayton Contemporary Dance Second Company (d2) and Lula Washington Dance Theatre. She has taught at private and public schools, dance schools, non-profit dance organizations, summer dance intensives, colleges and universities and cultural institutions including Jeraldyn’s School of the Dance and Joffrey Ballet School. Her choreographic experience outside of the dance studio includes Union Avenue Opera’s Ragtime and Des Moines Metro Opera’s American Apollo. She is the founding artistic director of MODArts Dance Collective, a Harlem based nonprofit professional modern dance company that holds space for BIPOC artists and communities through its festivals, concerts, workshops and residencies. In spring 2025 she will create original choreography for the Theatre Program’s production of Richard O’Brien’s Rocky Horror Show.
