Auditions
When do auditions for UAlbany Theatre productions take place?
Auditions for UAlbany Theatre productions occur three times a year. For the fall productions, auditions are held during first few days of the fall semester. Spring production auditions occur mid-fall. Auditions for Fresh Acts take place mid-spring.
Who can audition?
All students are welcome to audition. You do not need to be a Theatre Major or Minor in order to participate.
How do I sign-up?
Students request audition slots by submitting an online Audition Form. They are encouraged to upload a headshot and resume as well, if possible. The email address to request an audition form will be provided in the “Upcoming Auditions” section below in the weeks prior to each audition. Students should arrive at the audition site at least 15 minutes prior to their assigned audition slot. Walk-ins are allowed as time permits.
What should I prepare for the auditions?
Audition requirements vary depending on the director and production. Generally, one monologue and song (16 or 32 bars), or two contrasting monologues are requested. Additional sides or songs are often provided for Callbacks. Audition information specific to each production will be posted here in the weeks prior to casting, as well as the email address to contact if you would like to request a slot. Please check back later for more details.

Theatre Program Casting and Production Policy
The UAlbany Theatre Program is committed to racial, cultural, and individual diversity, in all areas of production. We are committed to non-traditional casting to expand opportunities for women, actors of color, and actors with disabilities in roles where race, gender, or the presence or absence of a disability is not germane.
The UAlbany Theatre Program believes that students and artists of all races, genders, sexualities, nationalities, and religions are needed for our casts, our crews, and our production teams. We promote the idea that earning and retaining a role or a production position is a privilege, not a right.
Intended and registered theatre majors will be given priority consideration for all available roles and technical positions, though we welcome all students committed to taking risks and working collaboratively, to develop dynamic and thought-provoking theatre.
