The College of Integrated Health Sciences relies on the generosity of our donors who partner with us to provide our students with a first-class educational experience. Support from alumni and other friends creates opportunities for students in the form of scholarships, research funding, internship funding, laboratory and infrastructure development, travel grants, invited lectures, and so much more.
Gifts to Health Sciences through the UAlbany Fund provide discretionary resources to be used according to the greatest need or opportunity.

A scholarship to provide support for students who demonstrate financial need and who are pursuing graduate degrees in public health. The Donors’ preference is that recipients are Black, Latinx or from populations traditionally underrepresented in public health. The goal of this scholarship is to diversify the College’s student body and future public health work force.

Awarded annually to one MPH or MS student, based on academic merit, financial need, and commitment to a career in public health.
A scholarship to support a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. Selection may be based on academic achievement and/or financial need, with preference given to a first-generation student.
Awarded to a University at Albany student with demonstrated financial need, with preference given to public health majors.
Awarded annually to one MPH or MS student from an underrepresented group, based on academic merit and commitment to and interest in serving an underrepresented community.
The Carol Whittaker Global Travel Award provides travel awards for graduate students within the College of Integrated Health Sciences.
A fund supporting UAlbany’s Center for Global Health, which proactively engages with a wide range of partners around the world to create educational programs, collaborative research initiatives, and health promotion interventions to help solve today’s most critical global health problems.
Shirley J. Jones’ Award for International Community Building: Established to promote international education specifically for leadership, effective change, community building, global peace, security, and unity, and is awarded to a student, preferably of Black African descent, enrolled in the School of Social Welfare’s MSW or PhD with a demonstrated financial need.
Established in memory of Dennis Dooley, and is awarded to a returning student enrolled in the School’s MSW or doctoral program who demonstrates an interest and commitment to serving the elderly and their families.
Established in 2006 by William Textores in memory of his wife, Elfrieda, a tireless advocate for Albany’s South End Community, this scholarship is presented to a part-time or full-time graduate student enrolled in the master’s or doctoral program in the School of Social Welfare who demonstrates a commitment to community service and community building for at-risk or underserved populations in the inner cities.
This fund, established in memory of Professor Janet Perloff, provides for a student who demonstrates academic excellence, leadership, and interest in a career that combines public health and social welfare.
Established to memorialize Kent Brown’s personal and professional dedication to the field of social welfare, the scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the School’s MSW or doctoral program who is committed to serving the aging who suffer from HIV/AIDS or other physical disabilities.
Established by alumni Kristine M. Hazzard, MSW ’86, and Lawrence S. Hazzard, MBA ’87, this scholarship provides financial support for students participating in UAlbany’s Community & Public Service Program at the School of Social Welfare. Student recipients should demonstrate financial need.
The Shaiyah Ben Lev Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student who participates in Social Welfare's SWARE program and/or sponsored events and is committed to serving LGBTQQI individuals, families, and communities in memory of Shaiyah Ben Lev.
Established by Dr. W. Merle Longwood, in loving memory of his wife Jean, this scholarship supports UAlbany’s School of Social Welfare graduate or undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. The ideal candidate for this scholarship shall exhibit the kind of commitment to social justice and advocacy for peace that Jean embodied.
Established by Hal Lawson and Katharine Briar-Lawson in memory of Katharine’s grandmother, the Nola R. Hooper scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the MSW program who demonstrates a commitment to developing innovative school-based services to promote the well-being of children, youth, and families through effective social work programs in schools.
Established by Mrs. Judith Sidman in memory of her husband, a former University at Albany employee, the scholarship is awarded to a baccalaureate student who has shown a commitment to community service and has completed at least 160 hours of volunteer work through the Community and Public Service Program.
Provides scholarship support to students pursuing his/her MSW degree within the School of Social Welfare. The ideal candidate for this scholarship should display the same spirit of achievement, advocacy and activism that Sally Mulligan displayed while a student at UAlbany.
Established to honor and thank Stephanie Wacholder for her many contributions and years of dedication to the School of Social Welfare, this scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the MSW program who demonstrates financial need and a commitment to building collaborative partnerships and advocating for policy innovations in both the public and private sectors to promote well-being.
Established to advance the education, clinical skills, and career aspirations of students at the UAlbany School of Social Welfare, preferably South Korean, who demonstrate a commitment to developing innovative services to promote the well-being of Koreans.
Established by Distinguished Professor of Social Welfare Dr. William J. Reid, a leader and an internationally recognized scholar in social work practice and research. This is awarded to support a doctoral student’s dissertation research.
A fund to support the University at Albany’s Cancer Research Center. Researchers at the UAlbany Cancer Research Center are working to better understand the genetic and environmental causes of cancer, while providing in-depth training to early-career scientists. Using state-of-the-art technologies, faculty and students focus on the underlying biology associated with tumor initiation and progression, as well as the development and evaluation of chemo-preventive regimens and therapeutic approaches for common cancers.

A fund to support the Axelrod Prize in Public Health lecture. The Axelrod Prize in Public Health honors and recognizes an individual who has made significant contributions to the field of public health at the intersection of academia and government service at the local, state, or federal level. This type of work is particularly important to the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences, whose public health programs were founded in partnership by the New York State Department of Health and the University at Albany.
The Dr. Katharine Briar-Lawson Lecture series is designed to educate the campus and surrounding communities on a broad range of topics related to the research and practice of social work.
