Term Scholarship Fund for Excellence

How It Works

Under this special program, donors are able to name a "term scholarship" for a $5,000 commitment. The commitment may be paid over one year, or two. A brief time-frame for payment ensures that a donor's gift is put to work immediately assisting students who have both financial need and the desire to achieve their ambitions.
 
All Term Scholarship Funds for Excellence are limited to one critical criterion: financial need of the recipients. This allows UAlbany's Office of Financial Aid the flexibility and opportunity to respond to student financial needs as quickly as possible. A Term Scholarship may be designated toward a specific school, college or athletics team.
 
A Term Scholarship Fund for Excellence differs from an endowed scholarship in that it sunsets when funding is no longer available.

For example: 

Mary contributed $5,000 to establish The Mary Smith Term Scholarship Fund for Excellence. She is contributing $2,500 this year and $2,500 next year. Each $2,500 will be awarded to a UAlbany student who demonstrates financial need as defined by the University at Albany. Mary will have an opportunity to learn about her scholarship recipient and see first-hand how her generosity assisted a student with financial need.
