Online MPH student Kathleen McDonnell is working with Haiti In Our Hands, a charitable organization based out of the Syracuse area dedicated to improving the lives of the people of Haiti by bringing healthcare, supplies, and a sense of solidarity.
The organization takes an annual trip to Haiti to staff a medical clinic in the remote mountain community of Chauffard. As part of Kathleen’s internship, she has developed and administered a community health survey, developed and implemented community health education materials, and participated in a 3-day medical mission to Haiti.
She is still working on the internship and will be performing data analysis on the survey results, among other activities. Kathleen is a Family Nurse Practitioner; therefore, she was able to apply both her clinical and public health skills during the medical mission.
