Laundry Services

Residential students have free, 24/7 access to laundry machines, with washers and dryers available in each residence hall and apartment complex.

All laundry machines are synced with Speed Queen, a free app that allows you to monitor the availability of laundry machines on campus and check your cycle time.

Get started with Speed Queen using these instructions:

  1. Download the Speed Queen app.
  2. Set up your account.
  3. Add your location by using school code "UALBAN."
  4. Locate your building.

Please fold your laundry in your room and wash or sanitize your hands thoroughly.

How to Use a Washer
  • Check your clothing pockets.

  • Add laundry detergent or a detergent pod.

  • If you are using detergent pods, throw them in directly with your laundry.

  • If you are using regular detergent, use the cap as a guide before pouring.

  • Load the washer, leaving about five inches of space from the top. If you overload the machine, your clothing won’t get fully washed.

  • Select your cycle, temperature and other cycle options.

How to Use a Dryer
  • Clean the lint screen to allow for maximum air flow.

  • Remember that one washer load is one dryer load. If you overload the machine, your clothing won’t get fully dry.

  • Check your clothing tags for drying instructions.

  • Select your desired temperature setting.

How to Report a Laundry Issue

Laundry machines are serviced by TediMatts. A license plate is attached to all machines and shows a unique machine number and QR code you can use to report any issues.

To report an issue with a laundry machine, please either scan QR code on the machine or visit the TediMatts website.

For all other laundry-related questions, please email [email protected], [email protected] or [email protected], or call Tedimatts at 1-888-246-4545.

MicroFridge Rentals
MicroFridge Ad

The MicroFridge is the only microwave allowed in the residence halls (quads). It is a three-in-one refrigerator, microwave and freezer.  MicroFridges are delivered directly to a student's room, and picked up at the end of the semester.  For more information about the MicroFridge, please see this short informational video.

Students are allowed to bring their own refrigerators to campus, but the units must be 6 cubic feet or less, 110-volt, 1.75-amp and UL-approved.

Students can rent a MicroFridge directly from myMicroFridge. Rentals placed before July 15 automatically receive a $20 discount.

A rental MicroFridge is typically shared by roommates or suitemates. One person needs to arrange the rental, however, as the company cannot split the order between multiple people.

Please contact myMicroFridge directly at 800-525-7307 or [email protected] with questions.

For additional questions or concerns regarding MicroFridges, please contact University Auxiliary Services.

Moving & Storage Services

Don’s Moving and Storage offers move-in, move-out and summer storage services to UAlbany students. Note: This is the only storage and moving company allowed on our campus.

Don’s Moving and Storage can help you move your belongings into or out of your campus housing. They can also pick up storage boxes during spring move-out, store them over the summer and then drop them off during fall move-in.

Visit our Move-in and Move-out pages for more detailed information.

Note: If you live off campus, please contact Don’s Moving and Storage directly.

For additional questions or concerns regarding moving and storage, please contact University Auxiliary Services.

Parking & Mass Transit

Visit the Parking & Mass Transit Services website for information on CDTA buses, UAlbany buses, parking permits and bicycles.

Trash & Recycling

Residential students have trash and recycling bins in their room, suite or apartment. Students are responsible for sorting their recycling and bringing all trash and recycling to in the appropriate collection location.

Trash

Drop garbage off in your residence hall trash room or one of your resident hall/apartment complex's outdoor dumpsters.

Mixed Paper & Cardboard

This category includes office paper, cardboard, envelopes (with or without a plastic window), notebooks, cereal boxes, etc. No pizza boxes.

Drop these items off in the trash room or one of your apartment complex's outdoor dumpsters.

A certain level of metal is acceptable, as the processing plan uses magnets to pull out staples, paper clips and even wiring from notebooks.

Co-mingled Recycling

This category includes plastic, aluminum and glass. You must rinse all items and remove all caps, lids and straws.

Drop these items off in the trash room or one of your apartment complex's outdoor dumpsters.

Plastic products should have a number (1 to 7) inside a tri-arrow symbol stamped. Our recycling provider only accepts numbered 1 and 2 plastics. They will send any item numbered 3 through 7 to the landfill.

Batteries

Battery disposal and recycling is handled by UAlbany's Office of Environmental Health & Safety. Please visit the Hazardous Waste webpage for University Battery Recycling Locations.
