As a rising sophomore, you'll continue to benefit from on-campus living with easy access to your classes, the Campus Center, recreational facilities and all the other great spots on campus that you've learned to call home!

You have the option to select a room on Colonial Quad or Dutch Quad. If space is still available, you may also select a room on Freedom Apartments

Rising sophomores are defined as any continuing student who has earned fewer than 56 academic credits.  All students with an admission classification of freshman and sophomores are required to live on campus for the first two years at the University regardless of the number of credits.  Transfer students are not exempt from this requirement.  To check your earned credits, request a degree audit

Apply for Academic Year Housing

To ensure a seamless experience when selecting your housing option, please make sure you have completed all immunization and health requirements.

If you are withdrawing or transferring from UAlbany after the Spring 2025 semester, you must immediately complete the Not Returning for the Upcoming Year Form in the Housing Portal.

Step 1: Pay Your Housing Deposit

Continuing students are required to pay a housing deposit, which will be credited toward housing charges.  Housing Deposits are due by Friday, April 4, 2025.

The $125 deposit can be paid on E-Pay. After you log in, select “Deposits,” choose the upcoming semester and click “Housing Deposits.”

If you want to cancel your housing after selecting housing, submit a Housing Cancellation Form. Your 2025-2026 housing deposit is only refundable if you cancel your housing by Friday, April 4, 2025.

Step 2: Complete Your Housing Application

The 2025-2026 Housing Application for continuing students opens February 3, 2025. You can access the housing application via the Housing Portal.

If you are currently enrolled at UAlbany but are studying abroad or living off campus, you can return to on-campus housing. Please contact [email protected] to request your housing application be activated before housing selection begins.

Applying for Housing with Roommates and/or Suitemates

If you know who you want to live with, be sure to list your roommates/suitemates’ NetIDs and last names on your housing application. Have them list your NetID and last name on their application(s).

If you are looking for roommates or suite-mates, use the free matching tool Roomsurf. UAlbany’s code is UA1844. We also suggest students join their class year’s official Facebook group.

Note: All requested roommates, suitemates or apartment-mates must be eligible to live in the space they want to select at the time of selection. For example, a rising upperclassman cannot select an apartment with a rising sophomore during the rising upperclassmen housing selection periods.

Step 3: View Your Housing Selection Date & Time

Your Housing selection dates and times will be available on the Housing Portal’s “My Home” page once you’ve completed your housing application.

During your housing selection date and time you must return to the Housing Portal to select your room. That date and time are determined first by your credits and then by your grade point average (GPA).

If you believe your assigned date and time is incorrect, please contact [email protected].

If your assigned date and time have passed, you must select housing before your housing selection period ends.

However, since housing is available on a first come, first served basis, we recommend making your housing selection during your assigned date and time or soon thereafter.

If two or more students want to live together, the student with the earliest housing selection date and time should select housing for the group.

Note: All requested roommates, suitemates or apartment-mates must be eligible to live in the space they want to select at the time of selection. For example, a rising upperclassman cannot select an apartment with a rising sophomore during the rising upperclassmen housing selection periods.

Step 4: Select Your Housing

At your assigned date and time, log into the Housing Portal to select your housing.

Selecting Housing with Roommates and/or Suitemates

If two or more students want to live together, the student with the earliest housing selection date and time should select housing for the group.

Note: All requested roommates, suitemates or apartment-mates must be eligible to live in the space they want to select at the time of selection. For example, a rising upperclassman cannot select an apartment with a rising sophomore during the rising upperclassmen housing selection periods.

If your suitemates are assigned to the wrong bedrooms, each student who wants to switch must send an email to [email protected].

If you cannot find a room, suite or apartment with enough vacancies to accommodate your group, you must select housing separately during your individual selection dates and times.

If you cannot select a room or suite, but it is listed as vacant, then that space is unavailable. It is only available to students of another gender, students who need an accessible apartment or Residential Life staff. Please select an available room or suite.

Housing Selection Dates for the 2025-2026 Academic Year

The Special Interest Housing Selection Period is February 24 to 25, 2025. Please see below for detailed information about Special Interest Housing.

The General Housing Selection Period is February 26 to March 6, 2025. Students who were admitted as freshmen during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters select housing during this period.

Note: Bleecker Hall on Dutch Quad will be closed for renovations starting Fall 2025.

After you complete these steps, your housing assignment will be listed on the Housing Portal’s “My Home” page. If your housing assignment is not listed, you will need to try again.

If you’re not satisfied with your housing assignment, contact [email protected].

Harvey House

Harvey House is an intentionally intersectional residential community designed to celebrate and affirm the cultural experiences of LGBTQ+ students and their allies.

Cultural, educational and social programming helps Harvey House residents develop a strong sense of belonging and empowers them to better understand and advocate for equity, inclusion and social justice at UAlbany and beyond.

Harvey House provides current students with the opportunity to live with other members of the LGBTQ+ community, including allies. Harvey House is located inside Ten Broeck Hall on Dutch Quad, which is a recess housing building.

You must request to live in Harvey House on the Housing Application.

Then, you’ll select your room and roommates/suitemates during the Special Interest Housing Selection period. (If you don’t select a roommate/suitemate, other students who also applied for Harvey House may be assigned to your space.)

Harvey House is named after gay rights activist Harvey Milk, who graduated from UAlbany in 1951.

Milk was the first openly gay elected official in the United States when he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. He was shot and killed in 1978 and honored posthumously with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in 2009.

Please contact the Department of Residential Life at [email protected] with any questions regarding Harvey House.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Since single-gender housing may not be appropriate or comfortable for all students, a limited number of gender-inclusive rooms are available in our residence halls and apartments.

Students who select Gender-Inclusive Housing can select roommates and suitemates from across the gender spectrum.

You must request to live in Gender-Inclusive Housing on the Housing Application.

You'll then be directed to complete the Gender-Inclusive Housing application that will be automatically available for you to complete in the Housing Portal. If you do not complete the Gender-Inclusive Housing application, you will not be able to select housing from Gender-Inclusive Housing spaces.

Then, you’ll select your room and roommates/suitemates during the Special Interest Housing Selection period. (If you don’t select a roommate/suitemate, other students who also applied for Gender-Inclusive Housing will be assigned to your space.)

Please contact the Department of Residential Life at [email protected] with any questions regarding Harvey House.

Housing Accommodations

Students who require housing accommodations must have their medical need(s) documented by Disability Access and Inclusion Student Services. Documentation must be renewed each year before the Special Interest Housing Selection period.

Students with housing accommodations can live with any roommate(s) and/or suitemate(s).
