An aspiring Doctor of Public Health and 2021-2022 UAlbany Scholarship Recipient
A student in the School of Public Health and an aspiring doctor, Andrei shares what he enjoys most at UAlbany from his favorite class and professor to his favorite spot on campus and what he would like to do after he graduates.
My favorite class this semester is part two of SPH 712 – “Advanced Topics in Public Health Research and Practice II.” This class is co-taught by Dr. Gallant and Dr. De Long. I find this class interesting in that it allows us DrPH students to critically think and apply our skills and knowledge to real life public health situations.
My favorite spot at the School of Public Health is the student lounge. I feel that I can take a break there, have a snack, and do some quiet studying.
My proudest moment at UAlbany so far is my summer 2021 internship with the Task Force for Global Health in Atlanta, Georgia. Through Professor John Justino of the SPH, I was connected with colleagues from the Task Force and PAHO/WHO to develop a technical brief where we analyzed health campaign integration for neglected infectious diseases in Latin America and the Caribbean. I was the lead author for this regional paper.
My most memorable experience during my first year at UAlbany was my first day of in-person class. It felt great to finally see my professors and classmates and to interact with them up front.
As an aspiring Doctor of Public Health, it is my hope to secure a leadership role in public health practice to innovate effective changes for health systems strengthening in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Region. I look forward to returning home to Belize and strengthen the health system to one that is responsive to the health needs of everyone.
