What to Wear/Avoid Wearing
Dress for Success!
- Wear comfortable shoes – you will be on your feet for the entirety of the Stage Crossing experience (note that it is also wheelchair accessible), and the Undergraduate Ceremony involves walking on both grass and pavement.
- Be ready for the weather. The Undergraduate Ceremony is held rain or shine. If sunny/warm, be prepared with layered clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, etc. If rainy/cool, again consider layers as well as raincoats or ponchos and appropriate footwear. The Stage Crossings are held indoors but consider whether you run hot or cold and dress accordingly.
- Proper academic regalia is required to participate in Commencement activities. While there are no regalia sales on-site, the Bookstore (located in the Campus Center) will be open for any last-minute needs.
- UAlbany’s bachelor’s and Master’s academic regalia consists of a black gown and black cap, and the Doctoral regalia is purple with a purple tam. Official regalia may be adorned with stoles, ribbons, and other decoration associated with your experience at UAlbany. The base gown must be mostly visible. All adornments or embellishments that do not follow these rules must be removed at the request of event staff and/or University officials. View the following videos for tips on how to wear your regalia:
