Apply as an International Undergraduate Student

Apply using either the State University of New York (SUNY) Application or the Common Application. Note: If you apply after May 1, you must use the SUNY Application.

All applicants must submit the application fee at the time of application.

All first-year (freshmen) applicants must also complete the 250- to 500-word essay component of either the Common Application or the SUNY Supplemental Application.

Conditional Admissions

If you don't meet the English language test score requirements for undergraduate admission (see Step 3 below), we encourage you to instead apply for conditional admission.

UAlbany offers conditional undergraduate admission to applicants who enroll in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) to improve their English before becoming as a degree-seeking student.

To apply for conditional admission, please complete the full admissions application process (Steps 1 through 6). You must also complete an Intensive English Language Program (IELP) application and pay the IELP application fee.

All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

• First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

• Transfer applicants: You must submit official transcripts of all college and/or university work, even if you don't expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

Transcript Evaluation 

A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants. 

Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.

You are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores but you may choose to submit them to strengthen your application. UAlbany's SAT code is 2532 and ACT code is 2926.

If you attended or are attending high school in the United States, or if English is your native language, you are not required to submit English proficiency scores but you may choose to submit them to strengthen your application.

If you attended high school outside the U.S. and English is not your native language, you must submit English proficiency scores. Any of the following tests will be considered:

International students living on campus have a total cost of attendance (including tuition, fees, housing and meals) of $49,243 per year.

 International students living off campus have a total cost of attendance (including tuition, fees, personal expenses and living expenses) of $40,743 per year. Note: You must have junior or senior class standing to live off campus.

Transfer applicants are not required to submit a letter of recommendation.

Students who have completed A-level examinations are eligible to receive up to 30 credits. Students must have a score of at least 85 to earn UAlbany credit.
