About CEMHD’s Minority Health Task Forces
The Center for the Elimination of Minority Health Disparities (CEMHD) seeks to improve lines of communication about health and healthcare among UAlbany faculty, local minority communities and health care providers.
Minority Health Task Forces are key in engagement between the University and local communities. Currently, the Center supports one task force in Albany.
Albany Minority Health Task Force
The Albany Minority Health Task Force has been dedicated to fostering community-researcher partnerships to address health disparities since its creation in 2005.
The Task Force’s mission focuses on the needs of communities of color in the Capital Region, with the goal of strengthening these communities’ capacity to achieve health and well-being.
Together, Task Force members work to:
- Identify causes and possible solutions for minority health disparities from the perspective of communities of color
- Encourage community-engaged research projects with methods that are scientifically rigorous, culturally appropriate and beneficial to the involved communities
- Help disseminate that research to the involved communities
Learn more about the Task Force below.
Task force members are local professionals and community leaders concerned about the health status of Capital Region communities of color. The Albany Minority Health Task Force is convened by Greg Owens.
Note: While Albany Minority Health Task Force is affiliated with CEMHD and UAlbany, the Task Force’s views do not necessarily represent those of the University. Members represent only themselves, rather than any employers, agencies or institutions with which they are associated.
The Albany Minority Health Task Force typically meets once a month during the academic year (August to May). The Task Force breaks for July and August with smaller subcommittee meetings during the summer months.
Meetings are held either on Zoom or at the Macedonia Baptist Church in Albany, with food provided during in-person meetings.
Individuals who are interested in attending an upcoming Task Force meeting should write to [email protected] for more information.
