Free Speech Politics Lunch & Learn
Free Speech Politics: A Discussion of the History and Comparative Context of Freedom of Speech
Wednesday, October 25, 2023 • 12-1pm • Via Zoom
Appeals to free speech are ubiquitous in contemporary American politics, framing the terms of debate about book bans, the expression of gender identity, the regulation of social media platforms, and life on university campuses. During this lunchtime discussion, we put these contemporary debates into historical and comparative context, while also providing some understanding of the politics driving Americans' renewed focus on free speech and the First Amendment.
