SSW Student, Faculty/Staff Receive Lavender Awards
Several members of the School of Social Welfare family were honored with 2021 Lavender Awards. The Lavender awards celebrate Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and allied faculty, staff, and students for their work in promoting LGBTQ+ equity at UAlbany.
Alice Lithell, MSW 2021 and current PhD student received the Gender Warrior Award. This award is given to an individual who has made a substantial impact on issues of gender equity, challenged the barriers and constructs of gender, and promoted social justice.
Assistant Professor Sarah Mountz received the OUT-Standing LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff Award. This award is given to a university employee whose leadership promotes understanding and inspires others to improve the climate for the LGBTQ+ campus community.
Nick Pattison, SSW’s Recruitment and Admissions Coordinator, was awarded the Nancy Belowich-Negron Safe Space Award for his contributions to continuing to forge Brave Safe Spaces on campus.
Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Dawn Knight-Thomas, was recognized with the Amazing Advocate Award for her dedicated advocacy and support on behalf of the LGBTQ+ and allied campus community.
