Prepare for the academic job market and a productive faculty career!
Prepare for the Academic Job Market
Strong preparation for the academic job market involves planning. Ideally, you should begin developing your documents for job applications a year in advance of entering the job market. CATLOE is here to support you in that planning, offering three different services to help you in this preparatory process.
- Individual consultation. We invite you to schedule an initial consultation with us one year before you plan to enter the job market. In that meeting, we can provide you with an overview of what you need to do to be ready when the time comes to submit applications. We will also familiarize you with our guides to preparing job market materials (linked below) and help you understand our consultative process for graduate students who hope to get jobs in the academy.
- Guides to help you prepare and review your materials. Our guides (linked below) are designed to walk you through the process of developing the materials that are most commonly requested in academic job postings. Before asking us to review your materials, you should draft, review, and revise your own work using the appropriate guide. This will strengthen your draft and save us the time of reiterating the important strategies that are already detailed in the guides.
- Review of materials. As you develop your materials, you can send them to a consultant for feedback. Please note, however, that we need at least one week to review materials or to schedule and plan consultations related to job interviews. Due to the demand for our services, we ask that you reach out to us well before your job applications are due and your interviews are to take place.
