Aviva Bower
Aviva Bower is an Instructional Consultant in CATLOE. She is an educational psychologist who uses research on human motivation, development, and cognition to support faculty and teachers as they shape their pedagogical practices. She has served as an educational consultant, developer, and evaluator for a diverse range of institutions, designing place based learning projects and interdisciplinary community based projects involving digital objects. She is passionate about working with faculty and instructors to develop pedagogical approaches that support students of color, LGBTQ students, and international students. She was an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at The College of Saint Rose where she taught for 14 years before coming to UAlbany. Originally prepared as a German language teacher, she spent 8 years as a language teacher in the US and in Finland before beginning her doctoral work in educational psychology. She has taught and supported teachers and faculty for close to 20 years and takes a humanist approach to instructional consultation. She holds a Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, an MA Degree in Comparative Literature from the University of Iowa, and a BA in Languages and Literature from Bennington College.
