The Office of Transfer Engagement supports incoming transfer students as they learn to navigate and succeed at the University at Albany. We encourage transfer students to become active members of our campus community. Transfer Engagement offers three Transfer Engagement Programs to help students discover all the opportunities UAlbany has to offer, get engaged, and become socially and academically acclimated to the University. Transfer Communities, offered to first semester students who are interested in meeting their peers, connecting with an upper-class mentor, and attending academic and social events as a community. We offer two Transfer Communities, The Massry School of Business Transfer Community (major specific), and The World of Transfer Engagement (open to all interested students). Transfer Communities do not have a residential life component and are open to both residential and commuter students. We also offer our UUNI-99 Engagement Classes which are zero-credit eight week meetings designed to help new students engage with their peers and learn about campus resources. Both Transfer Communities and the UNI-99 Engagement course are small courses designed to help students feel comfortable at a larger University. Students in our engagement programs are more likely to do better academically than those in no other support program so we encourage all incoming transfer students to select one of our engagement programs. Staff in Transfer Engagement also serves in an advisory capacity to Tau Sigma, the national honor society which recognizes and promotes academic excellence for transfer students. Additionally, the office oversees Transfer Transition Leaders (TTLs) who provide programming opportunities and peer mentorship to new transfer students and commuters.
