Women’s Basketball Shares America East Regular Season Title; Postseason Set to Begin
UAlbany women’s basketball team has earned a share of the 2015-16 America East regular season title and the No. 1 seed for conference postseason play. They play Vermont in a quarterfinal match-up on Saturday in Binghamton. The men’s team (No. 2 seed) hosts Hartford in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at SEFCU Arena.

A study led by School of Social Welfare Dean Darrell Wheeler shows significant promise for reducing the rate of HIV infections among black men in the U.S. By engaging at-risk individuals in client-centered intervention programs, the researchers will able to dramatically increase the acceptance and use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Study Reveals Critical Gap in Psychosocial Services for Medicaid-Insured Youth
A new study from Assistant Professor Emily Leckman-Westin of the School of Public Health found a majority of Medicaid-insured youth are not receiving psychosocial services before initiating antipsychotic treatment. The findings were recently published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Psychology Professor Christine K. Wagner's latest research has found a link between synthetic progestin -- a hormone commonly used to prevent premature birth in at-risk women -- and impaired cognitive function. The study reports effects similar to developmental disorders such as ADHD or autism.

RNA Researcher Looks to Unlock the Power of Stem Cells
UAlbany biologist and PEW Research Scholar Prashanth Rangan is working to understand the biology of stem cells, which may ultimately help with the design of therapeutics to combat cancer and other diseases. Rangan's research is funded through a $1.43 million grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The goal is to determine precisely how stem cells control their differentiation.
