Discount Dollars

Discount Dollars are part of your chosen meal plan and set up as a declining balance account on your ID card. For detailed information on Discount Dollars and other campus funds, please visit the Campus Funds & Gift Cards page.

Note: Discount Dollars do not activate a discount for prepackaged goods and bottled beverages or at vending machines. If you have a meal plan, we recommend you add Munch Money or Podium funds to your ID Card to pay for these items.

Deposit funds.

Special Dietary Needs

Allergen-free, Gluten-free, Vegan & Vegetarian Meals

Allergen-free and gluten-free meals are available at the Simple Servings stations in the Indigenous, State and Alumni Quads’ dining halls. Both dining halls’ salad bars also have gluten-free items.

Students who work with the campus dietician also have access to MyZone, which is a separate, gluten-free space in the Indigenous Quad dining hall.

Allergen, vegan and vegetarian information is posted at each retail venue. Allergen information is also available online for all retail venues.

Kosher & Halal Meals

UAlbany Dining offers a Kosher Opt-in program for students. You must opt-in to receive this service.

Halal meals are available in three retail dining locations: Halal Shack, Baba's Pizza and 518 Market. Halal meat is available upon request at the Indigenous, State and Alumni Quads’ dining halls.

Faculty/Staff Dining (F/S) Plan Inactivity & Refunds

The Faculty/Staff Dining Plan is taxable in New York State. Therefore, refunds may only be granted under certain conditions.

Faculty/Staff Dining Plan balances remain on your UAlbany ID Card while you are an active employee. New deposits can be made at any time and will be added to your existing balance. Deposit funds.

Balances cannot be transferred to other people or accounts. Balances never expire until you officially leave the University and submit the Faculty/Staff Plan Refund Request Form.

You can request a refund up to three years after ending employment at the University. A refund check will be mailed to your home address.

All refunds are subject to a $5 processing fee.

After three years of inactivity, your funds will be subject to New York State escheating regulations. If we are unable to reach you at that time, the remaining balance will be turned over to the New York State Comptroller. If that balance is over $20, you can request it through the Unclaimed Funds process.

Vending Machines

University Auxiliary Services (UAS) operates dozens of vending machines stocked with a wide variety of beverages and snacks across UAlbany’s Uptown and Downtown Campuses.

UAS vending machines are accessible 24/7 and located in academic and administrative buildings, on-campus housing, the Lecture Center and Campus Center.

Vending Machine Payment Options

All vending machines accept cash. Some vending machines are not equipped with ID card readers but will accept credit cards instead.

Most vending machines will accept payment via UAlbany ID card, using campus funds (Munch Money, Podium, Campus Gold and Discount Dollars) or the Faculty/Staff Dining Plan. You must swipe your physical ID card.

Note: Discount Dollars do not activate a discount at vending machines, so we recommend adding Munch Money or Podium funds to your ID card. Deposit funds.

Vending machine purchases made with an ID card will deduct account balances in the following order, depending on availability:

  1. Munch Money
  2. Podium
  3. Discount Dollars

Note: If you have rollover Munch Money from a previous semester, only the rollover balance will display at registers and vending machines until the rollover is exhausted.

You are responsible for ensuring the security of your UAlbany ID Card. However, for your financial protection, if your ID Card is used frequently at vending machines, your UAlbany email inbox will you receive a notification that your card has excessive vending use and is temporarily suspended from vending purchases. If you did not make the purchases, deactivate your ID card immediately.
