Seating area in the newly renovated Alumni House

2024

Background \ Overview:

The Alumni House was built in the 1970s and was an architecturally avant garde building for the time. The building house the Alumni Association as well as the Office of Development. Alumni House needed a refresh.

Project Description:

New carpet and LVT was installed on the first floor. All the existing ceiling grid and lights were removed and replaced with new University standard ceiling tile, grid and lights. The bathrooms were part of the process as well, removing the old grid, tile and lights. To finish off the restrooms, we used a Stonehard masonry product which allowed us to cover the existing tile and get a new updated finish. We used this product in the bathrooms on the old tile floors. We also cleaned and installed new return grates throughout the rehabbed area. The existing artwork was taken down and celebrated in updated artwork and graphics.

On the exterior, UAlbany Shops replaced a delaminating door and made an access road for ADA access for a handicap entrance to the 2nd floor while the elevator is down. Plant updated the exterior lighting to a more modern fixture, repaired the deck and pressure washed it, removed an old withering front entrance/patio with a new paver entrance deck and added a side patio and benches. The Grounds crew did a lot of tree cutting to keep the trees away from the building and soft washed and sealed the wooden siding.
